Frequently Asked Questions
What is psychodynamic psychotherapy?
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a form of talking therapy that explores the deeper feelings, patterns and relationships that can help make sense of whatever brought you here. As well as thinking about your current situation, we will explore how your past experiences may be impacting the way you feel, the way you relate to others and the way you see yourself.
Compared with some other forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy is less structured and more exploratory, creating a safe and confidential space for reflection, curiosity and a deeper understanding of your emotional world.
Your session will take place in person at the same day and time each week, helping to create a regular and reliable space for the work to develop over time.
Where appropriate, online sessions may also be considered.
How do I get started?
Getting started is simple. You're welcome to get in touch by email, phone, or via the contact form to arrange a free 15-minute telephone call. This gives me a chance to hear a little about what's bringing you to therapy, and gives you a chance to get a sense of me before deciding whether you'd like to meet in person.
If you'd like to take things further, we can arrange an initial consultation — a standard 50-minute session, charged at my usual fee. This isn't a commitment to ongoing therapy; it's an opportunity for you to ask any questions, and for us both to get a sense of whether working together feels right.
After that, there's no pressure to decide straight away — you're welcome to take some time before deciding whether you'd like to begin working together on an ongoing basis.
How can I contact you?
You can email me on claire@clairenapierpsychotherapy.com or complete the contact form here. I aim to reply within 24-48 hours.
What does it cost?
As at July 2026, my fee for initial consultations and ongoing therapy sessions is £85.
I know that the cost of therapy can be difficult for some people, so I keep a small number of lower-fee spaces available.
I review my fees from time to time and would always talk through any changes with you in advance.
